In 2022, 891 individuals died from overdose in Wayne County.
Each of these individuals has a name, a face, a family.
Locally, 4 out of 5 overdose deaths are driven by fentanyl: a powerful and fast-acting synthetic opioid that’s up to 100x stronger than morphine and heroin.
Many street drugs are laced with fentanyl, including fake pills like Norco, “percs” (Percocet), “oxys” (oxycodone), Xanax, Klonopin, and Adderall, as well as other drugs like “coke” (cocaine), “meth” (methamphetamines), “molly” (MDMA), heroin and ketamine.
Because it’s difficult to detect if a drug is laced with fentanyl, anyone who uses is at risk of overdose.
Lifesaving tools like Naloxone (NARCAN®) and drug testing strips help put the power back in our hands.
